13-year-old Rape Victim Discovered Pregnant; Perpetrator Still Free.

Princess (pseudonym) is a 13-year-old student residing in Bamenda who is a victim of rape. Tragically, after experiencing the traumatic incident of being raped a few months ago, she and her family have recently come to realise that her suffering is far from over.

She had been compelled to keep it a secret until a few days ago when her parents noticed changes in her mood and physical appearance.

Her mother informed MMI that she had to request a pregnancy test, and the result was positive.

” I could not believe my eyes, so I went to different hospitals to confirm that my 13-year-old daughter was impregnated by a rapist,” the mother told MMI.

Enquiries have been made, and a minor has identified the alleged rapist.

The individual identified as Adamu, who is the author of the minors’ pregnancy, has acknowledged his responsibility for the situation.

Earlier today, the family reported to the police about the suspect rapist, Adamu. However, he is still free and continuing to work without any consequences.

Through her tears, Princess’ mother shared, “Today, we reached out to the judicial police to inform them of the situation. However, they questioned whether we were certain that Princess was pregnant. This interaction has left us feeling hopeless about the possibility of obtaining justice through the security forces.”

Princess has undergone an examination at the Bamenda Regional Hospital, but the medical staff has not disclosed the age of her pregnancy to her parents.

This is not the first time MMI is reporting the case of a 13-year-old being victim of rape or other forms of sexual violence. These many rape instances of 13-year-olds highlight the prevalence of the problem in different parts of Cameroon.

According to guidance counsellors, it is advisable to seek proper counselling for Princess in order to prevent any additional harm.
