14 Cameroonians Detained in China

Information from credible sources reveals that at least 14 Cameroonians are being held in Chinese detention centers for unjustifiable purposes by Chinese authorities.

According to our informant in China, the Cameroonians were arrested alongside other Africans in the Liaoning Province, Shenyang city, and have been incarcerated for over 33 days.

The arrested Africans are believed to be legally living in China, with all identification documents. Also according to our informant, “The Chinese law states that if you are caught working without a work permit, you will be fined a sum of 5000yuan or be repatriated.”

The arrested Cameroonians however have spent above the required time in detention, and nothing further has been told of their release.

All efforts to visit the detained Cameroonians have also been denied by the Chinese authorities.

“We went there to visit but they said Africans don’t have any visiting rights, ” our informant said.

Cameroonians in China have urged the Government to intervene in the situation for their compatriots, as they feel only a superior authority can dialogue with the Chinese authorities for the release of the Cameroonians.

The Cameroonian Embassy in China has been contacted but equally hasn’t reacted yet.
