20 US senators applaud Senate’s recent resolution on ceasefire in Cameroon’s NW, SW regions

Some 20 American senators have said in a release that they applaud a January 1 resolution passed by the US Senate calling for a ceasefire between the Cameroonian army and separatist fighters in the North West and South West regions.

The senators, led by Senators Jim Risch and Ben Cardin, said in a Jan. 5 release that the Cameroon government and Separatists should drop arms, respect human rights and engage in a dialogue to end the conflict.

“Due to the leadership shown by the US Senate, we look forward to the United States taking new concrete steps to encourage real participation in conflict resolution processes, so that the people of the North West and South West of Cameroon can begin to recover from this dark period,” the senators said.

A US Senate resolution on Jan. 1 called for a ceasefire in the North West and South West, urging belligerents to allow humanitarian access into the conflict zone, and for authorities to exercise restrain but allow peaceful protests to go on in the country, with an underlying call for dialogue.
