22 illegal loggers arrested in the Far North

*
Some 22 illegal wood loggers have been nabbed in the Far North region of Cameroon.

They were apprehended following a manhunt conducted by officials of the ministry of wildlife with the support of the defense and security forces.

The exercise followed an instruction from Far North Region governor, Midjiyawa Bakary.

They were arrested in the locality of Ngamé.

It was around 10 a.m. last Friday that the patrol was launched in the forest of Ngamé located 50 km from the waza national park.

They spent more than 4 hours under the oppressive sun to dislodge a colony of people camped in the bush and whose activity is the carbonization of coal by the illegal cutting of wood.

Surrounded by the police, the gendarmerie and the elements of the Fauna and forest, the members of the group, all suspects who were heavily armed were arrested.

Several carbonization sites were destroyed to fight against the exploitation of forest resources.

Tons of wood were thus found in this brushwood of Ngamé and will be made available to the authorities. Those arrested were disarmed of their knives, charms and many other objects.

They were transported to Kousseri and are now expected to face the justice system.
