32-Year-Old Hiker Dies on Mount Cameroon After Ignoring Warning Signs

A 32-year-old man identified as Agbor was found dead on Mount Cameroon on Monday morning, March 3, after an ill-fated expedition with a group of fellow hikers. The incident, which unfolded over the weekend, saw the hiker die in his rest after complaining of unstable body motion while hiking to the summit.

According to reports, Agbor was part of a group of young adventurers who set out to summit the mountain on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Witnesses say he began experiencing severe muscle cramps near Hut III but insisted on pressing forward despite concerns from his companions. As they neared the summit, Agbor reportedly decided to rest, while the rest of the group continued their ascent.

The group, exhausted and disoriented, struggled to navigate their way back down and only reached Hut II by Monday morning. At this point, they realised Agbor had gone missing. Mountain guards searched for him and eventually discovered his body between Hut III and the summit.

This Tuesday, March 4, the South West Gendarmerie Headquarters at Legion questioned all members of the hiking group. Preliminary reports suggest that exhaustion and possible exposure to the elements contributed to the unclear cause of death.

This incident follows closely after the 30th edition of the Mt Cameroon Race of Hope, which took place on February 22, 2025. Hassan Hosheni and Ngalim Lizette each won ten million CFA Francs.

The Mountain arguably remains one of the topmost hotspots for hiking across West Africa.
