A total number of thirty-four migrants are confirmed to have drowned today on the coast of Djibouti as they undertook the dangerous adventure to Yemen from Djibouti to search for employment opportunities in the war-torn holidays.
The tragedy happened as a boat that capsized on the sea due to strong winds. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) revealed that it is the second of such tragedies on the sea in less than a month.
Amongst the victims of the boat capsize were several children and a few elderly persons. The boat which contained at least 200,000 persons, started being impacted by the strong winds of the sea thirty minutes into their journey, causing the smugglers to panic, consequently throwing over 80 persons into the sea to free the boat and return to land.
Two similar incidents equally occured within the month of March, which led to the death of over 50 migrants. Despite the continuous risks that are involved in the dangerous adventure by sea for greener pastures, thousands of Africans still take the risks, most of whom end up in the sea and into slavery.
