402-meter Cross River bridge linking Cameroon and Nigeria, inaugurated

The 402-meter Cross River bridge at the Mfum-Ekok crossing which links Cameroon to Nigeria has been inaugurated.

Present at the inauguration which took place on November 3, 2022, were representatives from the European Union, the African Development Bank, and the governments of both Nigeria and Cameroon.

At the inauguration, Cameroon was represented by the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi alongside some other government officials.

According to the European Commission, “The new bridge and border crossing are a tangible demonstration of the EU’s enhanced support to African partners. They will further develop the agro-pastoral potential of the area and boost the income of the population.”

The bridge, according to them, “… will also enhance connectivity between Nigeria and Cameroon and increase integration, commercial exchanges and the movement of goods and people between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).”

The construction of the 402-meter bridge it should be noted began in 2018.
