Some nine members of the ministerial convoy to the Far North region are still receiving treatment at the Maroua military hospital after the weekend’s accident.
Reports say two of the victims were unconscious, but are responding to treatment.
Minister Celestine Ketcha Courtes, one of those who sustained injuries in the accident had taken part in a press briefing at the end of the tour just hours after the accident. She thanked President Paul Biya for the care accorded her and members of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR, involved in the accident, a move for which she has been ridiculed by many on social media platforms.
13 persons were injured on the morning of September 5, 2020, on the Maroua – Mora stretch of road as the convoy of 7 ministers on a humanitarian mission and a working visit to the Far North Region had an accident.
Construction works on the road coupled with poor visibility have been blamed for the crash as five vehicles fell off a bridge.
The delegation led by Territorial Administration Minister Atanga Nji Paul among other things provided aid to flood victims in the area, as they visited some parts of the region.
