Aboubakar top target for Brazilian club Gremio after Suarez’s exit

Cameroonian forward, Vincent Aboubakar, could be joining the Brazilian football giants, Gremio, who have reportedly declared him their top target to replace departing legend, Luis Suarez.

According to renowned Turkish journalist Fatih Dogan, Gremio has offered to recruit Aboubarka as they seek a replacement to Suarez, who recently moved to Inter Miami.

According to Africa Foot United and Info Sports, Antonio Brum, Gremio’s vice-president of football, dropped the bombshell on Wednesday, comparing Aboubakar to some of the world’s most prolific strikers.

“Aboubakar is a great striker, at the level of Lewandowski and Suárez. We are looking for a replacement for Suarez. We don’t have it yet. We are studying his conditions.”

Aboubakar, 31, who is due to leave Turkish club Besiktas, has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, captaining Cameroon to the 2021 AFCON and bagging 13 goals in 28 appearances for Al-Nassr.

His predatory instincts and aerial prowess are undeniable, drawing comparisons to the talismanic Suarez who recently announced his departure from Gremio.

However, concerns linger over Aboubakar’s consistency and injury record.

His time at Porto, while marked by moments of brilliance, was plagued by spells on the sidelines.

Gremio, under pressure to maintain their competitive edge after Suarez’s exit, need a reliable goalscorer to spearhead their attack.

Despite the reservations, the mere mention of Aboubakar alongside Lewandowski and Suarez speaks volumes about his caliber.

His potential, when harnessed effectively, could make him a formidable weapon for Gremio.

The Cameroonian’s experience on the continental stage, having lifted the Champions League trophy with Porto in 2014, could also prove invaluable in Gremio’s quest for South American glory.
