Indomitable Lions captain, Vincent Aboubakar, undergoes an imaging scan today following an injury sustained during yesterday’s training session in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.
The scan, which is being conducted at an accredited hospital in Ivory Coast, is set to determine the severity of the injury and could impact the striker’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023, which kicks off today.
Aboubarka, the golden boot winner of the 2021 AFCON, was seen limping off the pitch in severe pain during the training session.
While the management of the Indomitable Lions has not issued an official statement regarding the injury, state broadcaster CRTV said that the captain would undergo an MRI scan, and any updates on his condition would be officially communicated in a release from the team.
The imaging scan will determine the extent of the injury and subsequently guide decisions on his AFCON participation.
Aboubarka was set to lead the Indomitable Lions in their first AFCON 2023 game against Guinea on Monday. But now his fate hangs in the balance.
The fear of Aboubarka missing out on the tournament is evident among fans, considering his goal-scoring prowess in previous games.
