Abraham Lincoln’s Hair Sells At FCFA 44.7 Million During Auction

A lock from former US President Abraham Lincoln’s hair is selling for over $ 81,000, approximately FCFA 44,790,603 at auction.

The 155-year-old lock, stained with his blood, was cut from his hair after President Lincoln was assassinated.

The auction took place on Saturday with the buyer remaining anonymous, according to Boston-based RR Auction.

The emblematic lock was cut during a post mortem on and rapped in a telegram a day after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865.

The lock was secretly preserved by Dr. Lyman Beecher Todd, a cousin of first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, who was given the lock.

“The lock of Abraham Lincoln’s hair … was cut from his head and given to my father during the performance of the postmortem and has remained entirely in the custody of our family since that time,” said Todd’s son, James A. Todd, to CNN.
