After 4 Divisions in North West, Blackout Hits Kumba -ENEO Officials Raise Security Concerns

Kumba residents have been in the dark for four days now. Food stuff and other valuables stocked in fridges are gradually decaying while other businesses have been on a standstill.

“For four nights now, we have been in the dark. We were told to stock food in fridges due to the unstable atmosphere but everything is getting bad…What will become of our lives at this crucial moment?” a Kumba resident told Mimi Mefo Info.

The entire Kumba town has been affected, Mimi Mefo Info has learned.

Power cut has been frequent in Meme Division of Cameroon’s South West region since the start of this year.

Locals in four divisions in the North West region – Donga Mantung, Ngohketunjia, Menchum, and Bui – have also been in the dark for over two months now.

Inhabitants of Boyo and  Batibo have also been in the dark for 3 and 7 days respectively.

Mimi Mefo Info contacted sources at ENEO who said they are aware of the problem but said security threat is preventing their technical team from going to the ground.

We were told that the problem in the North West region is triggered by a fault on the power supply grid from Bamenda to Ndop.

“Our technicians have to go to the field to identify the exact fault line and remedy the situation… Other minor transformers also have a similar problem. We are still trying to see how our team can be deployed with the help of security officials without which it will be difficult.”

On the situation in Kumba, security concerns were also raised as an impeding factor.

The official told Mimi Mefo Info that the energy supply line in Njombe extends through Tombel in Kupe Manengouba via Muyuka to Kumba. He however assured, without precision, that the problem will addressed.

The affected regions will therefore have to wait until ENEO dispatches its technicians on the ground at an uncertain date and time.
