The Rwandan national team head coach, Vincent Mashami in a post-match press conference yesterday at the Japoma Stadium accused medical staff in Cameroon of having tampered with the Covid-19 results of his players before their encounter.
Before the game between both countries, some players who were considered key to the Rwandan selection were declared Covid-19 positive and hence unfit to play against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
Vincent Mashami, however, didn’t buy into the story and somehow believed that it was a ploy aimed at weakening his team for what was a crunch tie for them especially.
The Amavubi’s of Rwanda held Cameroon to a draw at the Japoma Stadium, missing out on qualification for the tournament in Cameroon, making their case more depressing.
We remember it was the case during the CHAN when Cameroon had to face DR Congo in a quarter final game in Douala. Coach Florent Ibenge of DRC was left furious after his players were psychologically broken by series of Covid-19 tests which all produced different results.
Cameroon now stands a great risk of sanctions from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA if the claims as stated by Rwanda are proven right.
