After rights groups call out military excesses:
Atanga Nji hits back, accuses NGOs of receiving bribes, siding with separatists

Cameroon’s Territorial Administration Minister Paul Atanga Nji has once more called out Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) for their role in the armed conflict in the country’s Anglophone regions.

In a video making waves on social media, Minister Paul Atanga Nji said the NGOs concerned with security activities in the regions have been paid to maintain sealed lips over separatists’ activities.

Holding up the arm of a boy he said was tortured by separatists, the minister said violence was unacceptable.

“Look at the magnitude of violence… We cannot accept things like these. The defence forces are here to protect the local population against such atrocities,” he stated.

Government, he went on, expects NGOs to denounce the “terrorists”.

“… But because they have received money, they do not want to talk,” the Minister of Territorial Administration added

It should be recalled that this is not the first time the minister is hitting hard on NGOs. Months back, he had accused some of aiding separatist fighters with supplies and finances and threatened to send them packing.

His threats and recent declaration however follow several reports citing military excesses and crimes in the North West and South West regions, many of which have been captured on camera.

Despite the grave rights abuses, Government and the army maintain that soldiers deployed to the regions have always acted professionally.
