Agbor Balla urges North West, South West regions to rise above hate, individual differences

Barrister Nkongho Felix Agbor, Founder of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, CHRDA, has urged indigenes of the North West and South West regions to look beyond their differences and live together.

He was reacting to the recent rise in xenophobic comments on social media, when he said “we must find common ground between the peoples of the Southern Cameroons. What unites us is stronger than what divides us.”

“We have always been stronger when we speak with one voice, he added, citing examples of the struggle for the General Certificate of Education, GCE Board and the creation of the University of Buea.

“The diatribe by some unnamed South Westerners against our brothers and sisters from the North West is not a reflection of who we are as South Westerners. It clearly represents a minority position,” he remarked.

Admitting the existence of differences between both regions, he said it is a normal occurrence but it doesn’t matter as much as common values: “However, as a people, our strength is in our unity. We must rise above this pettiness and self-driven divisive tendencies. We have common problems and we must address them as one people,” he stated.
