Ahead of twin elections: Another SDF MP throws in the towel

Hon. Emma Yeluma Daiga of the Social Democratic Front, SDF party has joined her counterparts to turn down an opportunity to take part in the February 9 municipal and legislative elections.

The MP for the Bamenda /Bali constituency says she had the ambition to maintain the political legacy of his late father Hon A. W Daiga “but the raging conflict of self determination between the British Southern Cameroons and French Cameroon which has led to a very hostile political atmosphere in the whole of Southern Cameroons prevents my participation” she said.

Despite this, she added that he remains ” a committed militant of the SDF party who shall be able to render more holistic services to our nation when historical and political truth about the 1960 and 1961 independence of French Cameroun and British Southern Cameroons shall prevail and restore peace”.

To her, this decision is a follow up of his refusal response to the incumbent MP for Bamenda/Bali on November 16th 2019 when he informed her about their investiture to run for the 2020 legislative elections.

Hon. Diaga Yeluma’s decision follows that of several other SDF top guns in the likes of Hon. Awudu Mbaya who had earlier denied to take part in the elections. More and more Anglophone politicians that had interest in the elections and gradually turning their backs on the elections. “I have also respected calls from abroad and on Ground Zero not to contest for the 2020 elections and I have withdrawn my participation” another Anglophone politician told MMI.

This has raised concerns with the likelihood that several other politicians will also refuse to run in the days ahead.

The SDF party had earlier decided not to run for the twin polls in Cameroon but had made a U-turn.
