Ahmad Ahmad appeals FIFA’s five-year suspension

By Tata M.
Ahmad Ahmad’s lawyers have tweeted he is filing a law suit at the Court of Arbitration for Sports against FIFA’s decision to suspend the CAF boss for five years.

Ahmad Ahmad says FIFA’s decision last week was unfair and was a plot to prevent him from standing for a second term in the upcoming CAF elections.

Ahmad was suspended for five years on charges of mismanagement, corruption and breach of professionsional ethics.

But he challenged the decision saying it was filled with irregularities and has been “systematically unfavorable” against him.
“I challenge the sanction that has been imposed. Beyond my case, it is the self-determination of #football in #Africa that is under attack,” Ahmad tweeted on November 25.

Throughout his four-year rule, Ahmad Ahmad has faced several charges of wrongdoing, breach of ethics and sexual scandals.

FIFA started controlling CAF in July 2019 after rising allegations against Ahmad for sexual misconduct and corruption.
He was later arrested in Paris in June this year but was not charged of any offence until FIFA’s recent sanction.

“The facts were presented in a highly questionable manner by the investigatory chamber to the adjudicatory chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee,” a statement from Ahmad’s lawyers reads.

“Moreover, the latter hastened to issue an urgent and immediately enforceable decision, without providing the grounds of the sentence, despite its seriousness.
“The reason for such haste could be that this sentence would prevent President Ahmad from being re-elected to the Presidency of CAF in the elections scheduled for March 2021, despite the many supporters already declared in his favour.”
