Ambazonia explosive injures soldiers, others feared dead

Several military officers have been injured and others are feared dead after Ambazonia separatist fighters detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) on a military truck in Alou, Lebialem, on September 5.

Images and videos apparently taken and circulated by soldiers after the attack showed military officers lying in mud, and others groaning in pain after their vehicle was bombed. Beside them lay the wrecked truck. The number of casualties is unknown at the moment.

An Ambazonia separatist militia called “The Team Retina,” commanded by a so-called “General Massacre,” has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a video that circulated on social media, a member of the armed group, who was filming the attack on the military, could be heard commenting that the armed conflict was far from over in Lebialem Division.

Before the attack, Lebialem was witnessing relative calm that raised hopes of a return to normalcy in the Division.

The recent attack has surprised many who thought calm had returned to the once-dreaded Division that used to host one of the most popular separatist militias, the Red Dragons.

The group was completely dislodged last year when its commander, Oliver Lekeaka (Field Marshall), was killed.

Other fighters in the Division were also reported to have surrendered and joined the Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration center in Buea.
