“America has no military intentions or interest in Cameroon” – U.S. Embassy, Yaounde

The United States Embassy in Yaounde has squashed claims that the U.S. government may intervene militarily in Cameroon to solve the sociopolitical crisis plaguing the Northwest and the Southwest Regions.

In a press release Friday, October 9, 2020, the U.S. Embassy in Yaounde called the reports “fake news”, maintaining that the Cameroon government is capable of solving its own problems.

“The U.S. Embassy categorically denies the assertion in recent fake news stories claiming that the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Kelly Craft recently announced a possible U.S. military intervention,” the press release read.

The U.S. embassy specified that neither Kelly Craft nor the full US Congress has mentioned Cameroon in any of her recent public outings or even suggesting or approving a military action.

“While some members of the U.S. Senate introduced a non-binding resolution on September 7, concerning the despicable violations of human rights in Cameroon and a call for an end to the violence, the resolution did not call for an intervention of any sort,” said the U.S. embassy in Yaoundé.

They say contrary to what some persons might be thinking, there is no pending decision awaiting the president’s approval of any sort.

The U.S. Embassy, however, calls on the government and the separatist forces to engage in an all inclusive dialogue.
