Amougou Belinga returns to Kondengui as request for release adjourned

The hearing of a request for release filed by media billionaire, Jean Pierre Amougou Belinga, and his lawyers has been adjourned to April 27.

The request was heard for a second time this Thursday, April 13, at the Yaounde Court of Appeal.

The brief hearing began at about 8:30am and by 10am, it was concluded and adjourned by the presiding Magistrate, Gilbert Schlick.

Amougou Belinga’s appeal for provisional release was first rejected by the Yaounde Military Court last month and his lawyer filed an appeal.

Amougou Belinga is being detained in connection with the murder of journalist Martinez Zogo.

The media mogul, who owns several lines of business, including popular Yaounde-based television Vision 4, was arrested on February 6 alongside several others in connection with the murder of radio host Martinez Zogo in January.

He has spent over a month at the Kondengui Prison in Yaounde since he was officially charged for complicity in torture and transferred from the State Secretariat of Defence to the facility.

Meanwhile, his lawyer, Battonier Charles Tchoungang, has continued to maintain that the billionaire is innocent, despite evidence linking him to the abduction, torture and murder of Martinez Zogo.

The assassinated journalist Martinez Zogo is yet to be buried nearly three months since his mutilated body was found, five days after he was abducted in Yaounde.
