Anglophone Crisis: 25 die in North West in one week

The past week and last weekend have been bloody across the Northwest region with pundits saying that the figures may continue to rise, especially as there is no end in sight for the Anglophone crisis.

Unofficial statistics holds that last week, seven soldiers lost their lives in Kikaikilaki in Kumbo when their car stepped on an IED, two gendarmerie elements were killed by separatist fighters in Mesaje, two others were gunned down at Che Street Ntarinkon while two separatist fighters and a student were killed at Kedjom Keku after gendarmes surprised separatist fighters at a checkpoint.

A police officer lost his life at way in Nkwen Park. Two civilian corpses were also retrieved in Belo allegedly killed by separatist fighters active in the area.

Sunday night breaking today September 13 was bloody in Bamenda. Residents work up today to be stunned by dead bodies in the streets. Local reports say four corpses were found this morning at Che Street, four at finance junction, one at Behind Che and two around the Army Rescue Unit in Mulang.

Today being a traditional ghost town day in Bamenda, it’s feared more corpses might be discovered when business resumes on Tuesday.

Uncertainty looms
People across the region are holding their breath as an imminent lockdown might soon englobe the region again.

Videos, audio and fliers are circulating on the social media space in the region announcing a one of its kind, Guterres National Lockdown to hold from September 15 to October 2.
According to the flyers, there shall be absolutely no movement of persons, cars, motor bikes except ambulances. Named after the secretary general of the United Nations, many have taken it as the biggest joke ever, while many say they do not want another lockdown.

Civilian gullibility or helplessness?
The bearings of a Northwest man or woman shall once again be put to test come Wednesday. All along, people in the region have been adhering to orders from people in the Diaspora who ask them to sit at home for longer periods, to stock food at home yet without saying where the money should come from.

Many are of the opinion that such calls for lockdown should not be adhered to anymore.
