Schools in Kembong abaondoned
Schools in Kembong have been suffering the fate of many in the conflict-hit Anglophone regions of Cameroon which have been abandoned due to the insecurity of students and their families.
Kembong is a village in the Manyu division of the restive South West region of Cameroon.
The locality is one of the hardest hit areas in the region as a result of the raging armed separatist conflict in Anglophone Cameroon.
Life has not been normal in Kembong since the escalation of the conflict.
Schools have remained closed with no hopes of resumption insight.
According to MMI findings, Government High School and Government Technical School Kembong have all been overgrown with grass. Classrooms now harbour cockroaches, lizards, and goats amongst others.
A concerned villager lamented to MMI, “I was shocked When visited this village. I remember when I left this village before the crisis, it was the best place to be “
“The village has two secondary schools -GHS Kembong AND GTC Kembong. People use to leave far-off places to come and attend school here but see what it has become due to the crisis. Everything has been destroyed. It is really painful. Everywhere is covered with bushes” he went on.
Learning institutions have been shut down in the locality as long as the raging Anglophone crisis.
The village remained deserted until recently when a few villagers are returning to test if the atmosphere is accommodating.
“The village is deserted. It is just now that people are struggling to come back” he continued adding, “Many parents have sent their kids to other towns for education “
