Mboutou Fabrice, an army officer serving as a lieutenant with the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR, an elite unit of the Cameroonian army has been killed.

He died Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in Mbengwi Momo division, of the restive North West region following an attack claimed by Separatist Ambazonia fighters.

Reports say his vehicle in a military convoy stepped on an improvised explosive device, IED, planted by the fighters.

The IED exploded killing the officer and others on the spot.

While separatist sympathisers have been jubilating, the government of Cameroon is yet to make a statement.
