The beheaded body of a young girl, about 18 years old, was discovered Tuesday morning at Gungong neighborhood in Bali Nyonga, Northwest Region, after she was reportedly killed by separatist fighters for collaborating with the military against them.
A source told MMI that “the young girl had connived with soldiers and lured one of the fighters to where he was ambushed, injured and later killed by the military.”
“This girl called the said fighter to meet her at Gungong, after arranging with soldiers to intercept him. When the guy was approaching the scene on a motor bike, the soldiers emerged from the bushes and opened fire killing two persons,” a source narrated.
The source furthered: “The fighter was hit but managed to escape and was receiving treatments at a hospital in Akum, Bamenda. He is said to have informed the lady only for her to later pass the information to the Cameroon Military, who went there and beat the guy to death.”
The source added that the soldiers also beat the supposed aunt of the separatist fighter who was attending to him at the hospital, and her whereabouts are still unknown.
“They equally got the aunt who was taking care of him well beaten and no one knows her whereabout and the remains of the boy.”
Meanwhile, Ambazonia fighters in Bali Nyonga, one of the strongholds of the separatists, are said to have launched an assault against those who worked with the military to killed their friend.
After apprehending the 18-year-old girl, she is said to have admitted her links with the military and pleaded she was not working alone, before the fighters beheaded her.
The girl reportedly told the separatists that there are many of them in Bali who are on the pay-roll of soldiers and government officials to monitor and report the moves of separatist fighters in the area.
In an audio clip that circulated on social media platforms, separatist fighters in Bali threatened to kill anyone who works with soldiers against them.
Bali Nyonga, one of the seven Subdivisions in Mezam Division of the Northwest Region, has been turbulent since the start of the armed conflict in the Anglophone Regions.
The separatist fighters have rendered the area ungovernable. Administration had long collapsed, and life is far from normal.
