Anglophone crisis: Shocking figures from Reliefweb

As of October 31, 2019, seven hundred thousand persons have been displaced from their original settlements in the North West and South West regions due to the Anglophone crisis. These figures including internally displaced persons and refugees were made public by ReliefWeb.

The leading humanitarian information source on global crisis and disaster stresses that the two warring factions have violated the rights of civilians by attacking civilians, schools, residential areas and health structures. ReliefWeb quotes the recent burning of a health facility in Tole in the South West region of Cameroon.

ReliefWeb also frowns at the continuous attack on humanitarian workers in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon by armed groups. It points out that ten humanitarian workers were kidnapped and later release upon the payment of ransom in the month of October 2019 alone.

In the face of the crisis, 77,510 persons have been assisted to have access to shelter while 172,372 have received food aid in the North West and South West regions.

In the domain of education, it has been revealed that 91% of children do not have access to education. This is because most schools remain closed in the regions since shutting down in 2016.

Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) has assisted some 112,794 persons while some 3,136 children in the regions have received vitamin A, statistics some critics say are non-exhaustive given there are many unreported incidents in the two regions.
