Anglophone Crisis: Taxi driver shot dead in Buea

A taxi driver was shot dead yesterday in Buea, the capital town of Cameroon’s South West Region.

The driver, locals say was one of two shot on the outskirts of the town.

He was shot dead and another injured.
“We can’t say who exactly shot him dead, but one was shot in Bomaka and another in Mile 18,” says a representative of the Fako Drivers’ Union.

The injured driver, he adds, was rushed to hospital by Doctors Without Borders but his health condition remains unknown at the moment.

The association of taxi drivers in the town, as well as administrative authorities, are yet to make any official comment on the incident.

The Muea and Mile 18 localities in Buea remain restive, witnessing occasional exchanges between security officers and separatist fighters clamouring for an independent Anglophone state, Ambazonia.

Thousands of lives have been lost in the five-year armed conflict.
