Anglophone Crisis: Traditional ruler of Bambalang released from Separatist captivity more than one year after abduction

A few days after the Mimi Mefo Info Team published a report, detailing the precarious condition of the abducted Fon of Bambalang in Separatist captivity, he has been released.

Fon Yakum Kelvin Shomintang of Bambalang was released this Thursday June 1st, 2023, after spending more than one year in Separatist captivity.

Circumstances leading to his release are still unclear.

He was kidnapped in December 2021 by Separatist commander ‘General No Pity.’

Our initial report prior to his release revealed how Fon Yakum Kelvin Shomintang was ridiculed and reduced into an errand boy and a cook, while being held by Separatists.

The government’s silence following his Kidnapping, was also questioned by his villagers who raised worries about his safety.

“How can a fon of a village, who doubles as president of the North West Chiefs’ conference dissapear and no one is bothered, including the administration,” a villager asked.
