Anglophone Crisis:
Bishop Nkea urges Christians to be messengers of peace

The Arch Bishop of Bamenda Archdiocese, His Grace Andrew Nkea has told Catholic christians in Bamenda that Mary the mother of their savior Jesus Christ remains a symbol of peace, unity.

He was speaking during a mass on the occasion of the Catholic feast of the Assumption at the Saint Joseph Metropolitan cathedral in Big Mankon Bamenda.

During the mass, he called on christians not to relent in their prayers to God for a return of peace in restive North West and South West regions of Cameroon that have been in crisis since 2016.

His Grace Andrew Nkea reiterated that the solemnity of the virgin Mary represents the unity of the church not the disunity of faith.

“We all must look at the things that unite us within the church… The feast of the assumption unites the disciples of Christ”, Arch Bishop Andrew Nkea said.

During the celebrations, over 200 persons received first holy Communion at the All Saints Parish in Bayelle Nkwen while Bishop Andrew Nkea inaugurated a prayer ground for the Catholic christians.

Following the feast of the assumption, Cameroonians are today enjoying a public holiday.

Bishop Andrew Nkea’s call comes to add to what the country’s English-speaking bishops have been outspokenly saying during the crisis, both in protesting injustices by the central government and condemning the abuses committed by both sides in the conflict.

On August 15 every year, the Feast of the Assumption is widely celebrated all over Christendom. This holy day marks the occasion of the Virgin Mary’s bodily ascent to heaven at the end of her life.
