Armed conflict in NW, SW: Two killed in Eyumojock military operation

Mkpot, a village in Eyumojock subdivision, Manyu Division in the restive South West region of Cameroon is in mourning after losing two of its residents.

Both above 60 years old, locals testify that they were shot at point blank by soldiers.

John Ojongmbang and Enow Thomas Orock, sources say, were killed on Sunday, December 12, by security forces from Mamfe, the divisional headquarters.

“The military came to the village from Mamfe, pulled two of them from their homes and executed them pointblank,” testifies an indegene who opted for anonymity.

Not only were they neutral, he says, but had returned to their homes after spending weeks in the bushes like thousands of others displaced by the war.

“These are not Ambazonian fighters. They are civilians who have returned to the village set ablaze by the Cameroon military last year and have been living in horrible conditions made worst by the military atrocities,” he adds.

Since the crisis escalated into an armed conflict, thousands of civilians have been killed.

The reluctance of government and separatists to find common ground has worsened the situation, leaving civilians at the mercy of both fighting parties.
