Armed robbers operating on National Road No. 5 arrested

The security forces of Souza have arrested a gang of armed robbers specialising in causing terror along National Road No. 5.

Their arrest was thanks to information provided by one of the gang members, Alex, who had been nabbed on September 15 in Souza, a town in the Littoral region of Cameroon.

Armand Didier Mony, station head at the Souza police station, while narrating the circumstances that led to Alexis’ arrest, revealed that the man had mistakenly dropped an identification document during one of their attacks.

“We opened an investigation where we interrogated Alex since he was the one who stabbed one of the victims,” Armand Didier told the press.

His arrest was followed by investigations by the Souza security forces, which led to the subsequent discovery of dangerous weapons such as guns and the arrest of other accomplices.

In the course of the investigation, 38-year-old Ewane was apprehended by the forces of security in possession of dangerous weapons such as bullets and two guns which he hid on his ceiling.

“It permitted us to discover two arms, which he hid on his ceiling, and in the town of Souza we equally discovered a hunting gun,” Armand Didier furthered.

When interrogated by the press, Ewane affirmed that he was caught in possession of the dangerous weapons.

According to reports, the investigation equally permitted the Souza security forces to dismantle a network of armed robbers operating in Douala, in the Littoral region.

In recent months, Insecurity has heightened along most Cameroonian highways as road users face recurrent attacks from unknown armed persons.

Some of these attacks have led to the loss of several lives.

The apprehended armed robbers have been kept in custody at the Souza security post while they await trial.
