The President of the North West Regional Assembly, Professor Fru Angwafor III has reiterated that the construction of a gas plant in Bamenda announced six months ago will soon begin.
He gave the assurance in Bamenda yesterday. This was at the opening of the first ordinary session of the North West Regional Assembly for 2022.
Professor Fru Angwafor III detailed that a site and a contractor had been identified for the construction of the gas plant. The plant, he noted, is expected to reduce the high cost of cooking gas in the North West region.
Locals in the North West say the price of a 12.5kg bottle of gas is between 8.000 FCFA and 8.500 FCFA. The President of the Regional Assembly described the gas plant initiative as a solution to the high cost of gas.
“The administrative authorities have already identified the site in Bamenda I. It is big enough to have this major project. In no time too far from now, they will start the project”, Angwafor III said.
Another project announced by the regional assembly recently concerns the construction of a dry port in Bamenda. However, members of the institution say only feasibility studies will determine how realistic the project will be. The gas plant and dry port projects were announced in September last year by the North West Regional Assembly.
