Atanga Nji relaunches action to close CRM’s Orange Money donation account

After turning down aid from Cameroon opposition leader, Prof Maurice Kamto and his Survie Cameroon Survival Initiative (SCSI), the government has once more called for donations accounts belonging to the political party to be closed.

Writing to telecommunications company, Orange Cameroun, Minister, Atanga Nji Paul reiterated his call for the network to freeze accounts meant for donations to the initiative.

Minister Atanga Nji says calls for donation from the public ought to be “duely authorised by the Territorial Administration Minister himself, even by a legally recognised political party.”

Because the CRM party failed to get procure an authorisation, Atanga Nji says, the party’s approach remains illegal “until MINAT has formally authorised this appeal for public generosity.”

In the light of this, Atanga Nji reiterates that the telecoms operator closes the CRM donation account, freezing the funds in it.

Despite the freezing of some of the SCSI’s accounts and government’s refusal to receive its contribution for the fight against COVID-19, the movement continues playing its part.

On Monday, a four man delegation from the SCSI led by Barrister Yondo Black handed Covid-19 equipment to the Archdiocese of Douala.

With over 2070 positive COVID-19 cases, the Cameroon government has been criticised by many for putting political differences above the health of its citizens.
