Ayah Foundation unveils decade-long plan to rescue Cameroon’s Grand North from deplorable living conditions

By Tata Mbunwe

The Ayah International Foundation is launching a 10-year initiative dubbed Grand North Emergency Relief Project, GNERP, aimed at reviving living conditions in Cameroon’s three northern regions which the organisation has described as “diplorable”.

The regions have battled with security challenges from the Boko Haram group, alongside drought and economic hardship which has dropped living conditions in the Muslims-dorminated Far North, North and Adamawa regions of Cameroon.

To execute the GNERP, the Ayah Foundation says it will be raising at least 1 million Euros from donors meant to improve living conditions in three main sectors: water, health and education.

“If our means permit, we plan to build about 60 water points – 20 per region (a mixture of mini, sophisticated manual/solar/electric powered boreholes, alongside modern potable water wells) by the end of this decade-long initiative. We hope to equally equip under-equipped health and education facilities, as well as put up structures where need be, as our means permit,” the Ayah Foundation has stated.

AIF equally asserts that raising the budget for this project is very feasible if people will be willing to support the foundation in the humanitarian initiative.

“We count on the support of every living soul especially that of the ever supportive Ayah family, alongside our habitual partners in MODECNA & MRC political parties, as well as BONABERI.COM, etc,” AIF said.
They will also be relying on local individual partners such as Mrs Sylviane Carole, Mr Fidèle Yegwe Warman, Mr Loïc BOUGUEM, Lady LETICIA BOUGUEM, alongside international partners such as Mr Otto Ngwa (USA) Mr Michael Takie (UK) and Mrs NEKWA EUNICE (CANADA).

The organisation also has some Cameroonian celebrities backing their activities among them allies Kareyce Fotso, Sammy Diko and Indomitable Lions’ Michael Ngadjeu.

Executing the project in the conflict-hit Far North might prove challenging to the Ayah Foundation as Boko Haram insurgents continue raining terror on several localities.
