Ayuk Tabe Julius Sisiku and nine other interim leaders of the Ambazonia Interim government under detention at the principal prison in Yaounde, have threatened to embark on a hunger strike as from midnight today, if their lawyers do not notify them of the whereabouts of anglophones detainees taken out of Kondengui central prison on the 22nd and 23rd of July 2019.
Mancho Bibixy and atleast 200 Anglophone inmates are said to be in “secret” detention centres, after they carried out a protest in jail on July 22, 2019. Unconfirmed Social media reports say, some of them have been killed.
In a declaration addressed to the Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seal, the leaders outline a total of eight points that are compelling them to go on hunger strike.
Beside asking for the safe return of Anglophone detainees to their prison cells, Ayuk Tabe Julius Sisiku and others frown at the attack on one of their defending lawyers bar Amungwa Tanyi Nicodemus by elements of the gendarmerie in Yaounde.
They also mentioned, another lawyer was equally tortured in Bamenda. Brutality on defending lawyers they say “is intended to frighten them to abandon the case.”
On the issue of detention conditions in prisons, they complain of poor quality of food served to detainees and deplorable sleeping space. To them, the conditions of detention is inflicting pains on detainees.
The killings in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon. In the declaration, the detained leaders consider unjust the torture meted on innocent citizens in the restive regions by the military on the instructions of the central government in Yaounde.
On how internally displaced persons from the Anglophone regions are treated in Cameroon, Ayuk Tabe Julius Sisiku and other detainees of the Anglophone crisis criticized the instructions given to local administrators by the Minister of Territorial Administration to profile all IDPs in their area of command. They say, Minister Paul Atanga Nji has a hidden agenda of evil for the IDPs.
The leaders failed to mention the duration of the hunger strike.
