Fear and uncertainty gripped parts of Bafut, in Mezam, North West region, on Wednesday evening after a young mother was reportedly abducted by gunmen while traveling to Bamenda on a commercial motorcycle.
According to eyewitness accounts, the woman was riding on a motorbike with another passenger when armed men intercepted them along the Bafut–Bamenda road.
The attackers reportedly forced the mother off the motorcycle and whisked her away to an unknown location, leaving behind her baby in the care of the shocked bike rider and the other passenger.
The second passenger took responsibility for the abandoned child and rushed the baby to City FM Radio, located on Che Street in the Ntarinkon neighborhood of Bamenda, seeking help and safety for the infant.
Staff at City FM Radio received the baby and immediately alerted the appropriate authorities, while efforts were made to ensure the child’s immediate welfare.
As of the time of this report, the whereabouts and condition of the abducted mother remain unknown, deepening anxiety among residents and loved ones.
