For months now, Bamenda, chief town of the troubled Northwest region of Cameroon has been stinking, as heaps of garbage threatened the sanitation of the town.
It got to a point where even the population was fighting for space with the waste.
Things are however changing for the better and would remain so, if activities to rid the town of the garbage are sustainable.
Nkwen in Bamenda III is one of the areas that was hard hit by the waste issue. The garbage heaps have however been cleared, and residents can breathe fresh air again.
On Thursday June 14, 2022, waste Disposal machines were in action clearing the garbage off the streets. The scary dumping sites at S-beng Mile 3 Nkwen and Farmers House were also taken care off.
There are hopes that the clearing of the garbage heaps would continue. Over the past months however, the process has been threatened by separatist fighters who have coordinated a series of attacks aimed at garbage disposal company, HYSACAM.
