Army Rescue Recovers Bodies of Two Children in Mulang Bamenda Floods

The Army Rescue Unit has retrieved the bodies of two children who were swept away by torrential rains in Bamenda’s Mezam Division. The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening when heavy downpours triggered dangerous flooding in several neighborhoods.

Two Children Swept Away

According to eyewitnesses, the victims—aged 9 and 10—were from different families. They were reportedly swept away by strong floodwaters around GTTC Bamenda before their bodies were discovered downstream at Mulang Street 4.

“This is heartbreaking. The water came with such force, and before anyone could help, the children were gone,” a local resident told reporters at the scene.

Search for Missing Man Ongoing

In a related development, the Army Rescue team confirmed that the remains of another man believed to have drowned in the same floods at Street 3 have not yet been found. Search efforts are still underway, with the rescue team working alongside residents.

“We are committed to continuing the search until the missing body is located,” said Senior Warrant Officer Taku Paul, who led the operation.

Rescue Unit Issues Public Safety Warning

The commander also urged the population to exercise greater caution during heavy rains and to alert the rescue unit immediately when emergencies occur.

“We ask the population to avoid being outside when it rains heavily, and to always call the Army Rescue Unit as soon as there is an incident so that we can arrive earlier and limit the damage,” Taku Paul advised.

Recurring Flood Concerns in Bamenda

This latest incident highlights ongoing concerns about flood risks in Bamenda, particularly in flood-prone areas such as Mulang and GTTC. Local residents have repeatedly called for improved drainage systems and community awareness campaigns to prevent further tragedies.

Authorities are expected to release more details as search efforts continue.
