Bamenda: Health officials warn population against ‘NATURCOLD’ after medication kills six children

The Regional Delegate of public health in Cameroon’s North West Region has warned the population against the consumption of a medication manufactured by ‘FRAKEN’ called ‘NATURCOLD’.

In a press release issued Wednesday, April 13, 2023 Dr Kingsley Che Soh said the medication is “illegal and harmful.”

The public statement was made after six children died in the region from consuming ‘NATURCOLD.’

“A total of six children below five
years of age, died this week in a health facility, in Fundong health district.” the delegate said.

He added that, “These children who were all brought in from out of the North West Region to seek proper medical care, presented with decreased kidney function after having consumed a suspected substandard cough syrup named ‘NATURCOLD‘ supposed to have been manufactured by FRAKEN.”

Warning that the drug is not authorized for marketing in Cameroon the Regional Delegate said it was procured from unauthorized source.

“The population is called upon to avoid consuming this product if it is in their possession, and to take it to the nearest health facility for subsequent destruction,” he stated.

Advising against the dangers of buying roadside drugs or from illegal medicine stores, Dr Kingsley Che Soh encouraged the population: “………to always purchase their medications from pharmacies found within authorized health facilities”
