Bamenda IDPs To Benefit Free HIV Screening

By Timfuchi Aaron

A free HIV screening campaign will take place in Bamenda from February 4-13, 2022.

The screening is organized by the North West Technical Group for the fight against HIV/AIDS aimed at reducing cases of infection of the disease which is a public health concern in Cameroon.

The head of the North West Technical Group for the fight against HIV/AIDS Dr. Gladys Tayong says that internally displaced persons are highly encouraged to come for the test that will run for 10 days at mile one junction up station Bamenda.

According to her, focus will be on internally displaced persons and their families as well as the general population. During the 10 day event, the Technical group will offer pre-test counseling, do the test, and after that they will manage those tested, depending on the results of the test.

The ongoing Anglophone crisis has forced thousands of IDPs to relocate to cities like Bamenda.

Many of them have been pushed into unhealthy sexual lives styles just to make ends meet and it is feared the spread of HIV and STIs is high amongst the population and host communities.
