The population of Mile 5 in Nkwen, Bamenda III Subdivision of the North-West Region of Cameroon have frowned at judicial authorities for delaying the trial of Mr. Azong Bernard, said to have chopped-off the fingers of his nephew with a marchet.
They say keeping him at the Central prison in Bamenda to await trial is a way to delay justice so that the young man whose fingers were chopped-off is denied justice.
Many have also indicated that the fact that Mr. Azong has not yet appeared before the courts since his arrest is very suspicious.
“He was arrested since April and till date, all we hear is that, he is awaiting trial. How are we sure he is even detained as we are made to understand. The evidence against Mr. Azong Bernard are undesputed and so his trial should not be delayed. Don’t be surprised that, he will one day be set free just like that,” Fonguh, a resident of Mile Four Nkwen said.
Mr. Azong Bernard was arrested in the month of April after news went wild that he had chopped-off the fingers of his nephew by name Frinwie Brandon.
He was briefly detained at the gendarmerie post at Mile Four Nkwen before being transferred to await trail at the Bamenda Central Prison.
Sources close to Brandon say coping with his present condition has not been easy given that seven of his fingers are gone.
