Bamenda mourns baby Enondiale Carolaise

Residents of Bamenda in the North West Region of Cameroon today mourn 6-year-old Enondiale shot dead by a Gendarme last Thursday in Buea.

Today, many areas in the town of Bamenda have remained closed, with very few bikes and taxis circulating.

Reports say provision stores in some areas too have remained closed, as many people have been spotted in groups wearing black attires.

“… Commercial avenue is completely ghosted and filled with soldiers,” says a resident, who adds that very few kids were seen going to schools as compared to what obtains on a normal day.

The killing of little Ndiale in Buea last Thursday has since sparked anger and controversial views. While the governor of the South West Region said an investigation would be launched into the incident, many say his promise was just another smokescreen to calm the population.

The military on its part has expressed subtle support for the gendarme who shot the girl and was beaten to death moments later.

Eyewitness accounts have since confirmed that the gendarmes were operating an illegal checkpoint and collecting money from motorist, leading to the unfortunate incident.
