Bamenda: Four prisoners die after consuming poisoned meal, many others receiving treatment

Reports from Bamenda Central Prison in Cameroon’s restive North West Region, say, an estimated four inmates have died after consuming poison.

Six of them are currently at the Bamenda Regional Hospital in a critical state, MMI has learned.

Our source added that the ‘poisoned food’ consumed by the inmates was brought into the detention center by a yet-to-be-identified individual.

“We learned that a security officer on Sunday, June 26th, 2023, brought the food and it was handed to one inmate who then shared it with others,” declared our source.

MMI has not been able to corroborate these claims with prison officials.

The deceased victims have been taken to the mortuary in Bamenda.
