Bandit beaten to death after robbery attempt at traditional wedding ceremony

Bamenda, North West Region, Cameroon — According to an unnamed resident, an enraged mob caught and lynched an armed robber who attempted to disrupt a traditional wedding behind FONAP Polytechnic in Bamenda yesterday.

The incident occurred during a traditional wedding ceremony held in a blackout, MMI has learned. Two bandits arrived at the event, seizing phones from attendees. The bike rider who reportedly accompanied the main bandit, also described as a kidnapper managed to escape with the stolen phones, while the main perpetrator entered rooms, collecting valuables and even demanding a ransom of 30 million CFA francs.

Informed youths at the event acted swiftly, apprehending the main kidnapper before he could escape. The mob then took matters into their own hands, burning the kidnapper to death. As of this report, the kidnapper’s charred remains are still lying at the scene.

This brutal act of vigilante justice highlights the ongoing security challenges in the North West Region, where instances of kidnapping and violence have become distressingly common. The community’s response, while extreme, underscores the frustration and fear that residents face daily.

Local authorities have yet to comment on the incident, but this event raises urgent questions about the effectiveness of security measures and the rule of law in the region.
