Barrister Rene Maufo is new mayor of Njombe/Penja Council

After close to two months of vacancy following the death of Mayor Paul Eric Kingue, Njombe /Penja Council in the Littoral region of Cameroon has a new mayor.

In an elective Council session supervised by the senior divisional officer of Moungo division Friday May 21, 2021, Barrister Rene Maufo scored 16 of the 34 votes cast by Councilors.

Barrister Rene Maufo of MPCN political party therefore replaces Paul Eric Kingue, founder of the party and former mayor of the Council.

Four candidates from three political parties attempted to grab the top job in the council. Magloire Tchuinte of MPCN party had six votes, Sosso Bile of Cameroon People Democratic Movement got eight votes while Jean Pierre Kaham of the Social Democratic Front failed with four votes.

The new mayor of Njombe/Penja will have the huge responsibility of fighting for locals in the subdivision to benefit from the natural resources exploited by companies in the subdivision. A course the late Mayor fought for until his death.
