Bertoua: Detained Catholic priest, Abbot Emilien, dies

Abbot Emilien, a Catholic priest who was arrested and detained last year has died at the Bertoua Regional Hospital.

On May 2022 Abbot Emilien was detained in Bertoua prison after his arrest for “charges of youth corruption and sexual relations with a minor”.

He died today, March 15, 2023, following an illness, announced Metropolitan Archbishop of Bertoua, Monsignor Joseph ATANGA in a statement.

He expressed his condolences to the grieved family and invited the people of God in this time of Lent to, “pray for the repose of his soul”.
