The Biafran National League, a Nigerian separatist group operating in Bakassi, has said Cameroon’s Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR, reportedly captured one of their prominent fighters.
Henry Edet is said to have been captured in the ceded Bakassi Peninsula side of the Southwest Region on Wednesday, January 25.
Edet was operational commander of the group and was also connected to the Black Marines, a pro-Biafran militant group that has killed several BIR officers, MMI has learned.
The Biafran National League said they will retaliate if their captured militant is not released after seven days.
The group has been fighting to reclaim the Bakassi Peninsula, an oil-rich border territory ceded to Cameroon by the International Court of Justice in 2002.
