Bishops arrive in Maroua for 47th annual seminar, amid enthusiastic welcome

Maroua, Cameroon – January 7th, 2023: The annual gathering of the Bishops of Cameroon kicked off today at the Maroua, Far North Region of Cameroon.

Cameroonian Bishops and other members of the Catholic Church arrived at the Maroua Salak International Airport early today for the religious gathering. The arrival ceremony saw a vibrant blend of communities, clergy, and residents warmly greet the prelates as they touched down at 7:30 p.m.

Despite evident fatigue from their travels, the bishops readily embraced the joyful atmosphere. The program, meticulously prepared by the Maroua-Mokolo diocese, unfolded smoothly as the guests transitioned from airport greetings to solemn vespers in the Notre Dame de Founangué Cathedral.

The coming week promises to be a time of crucial discussions and fellowship. The annual seminar is a cornerstone event for the Cameroonian Catholic Church – which provides a platform for addressing pastoral challenges, strengthening unity, and charting the course for the future of the faith.

Bishop Nkea of Bamenda received in Maroua for the Bishops’ conference

Over the next few days, the bishops will delve into pressing matters, ranging from theological discourse, and politics, to social issues impacting their communities and the lives of Christians. For the people of Maroua, the event represents more than just a conference; it’s a cherished opportunity to connect with their spiritual leaders and witness the collective wisdom guiding the church.

MMI will follow the seminar proceedings, bringing updates on significant discussions and insights into the unique spirit of this annual gathering. Stay tuned for continued coverage as the Bishops of Cameroon convene in Maroua.
