President Paul Biya has appointed secretaries-general to ten regional councils in Cameroon.
According to a presidential decree signed Monday, January 25th, 2021, Giyoh Peter Yerima is the secretary-general of the North West regional council while Gilbert Acha Nkweti will carry out the same function in the South West Region of Cameroon.
The new secretaries-general will accompany the pioneer regional executives to ensure the putting in place of the Special Status granted to the two anglophone regions.
Secretaries-general in the country’s eight other regions include:
Adamawa: Aliyou Mal Ibrahim
Centre: MINKANDA Alain Patrice
East: MONGOY BOKASSANGA Michaël
Far North: Mohaman SANI
Littoral: NNOKE NGWESE Anthony
North: BOBBO GOUNOKO
West: Madame ETANKE Sylvie ESSOMO
South: BOTHE BEBEYA Henri Joël
With the appointment of secretaries-general of regional councils,Cameroonians are waiting for the appointment of two public independent conciliators in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon to complete the Special Status.
Several appointments from the central government to regional councils, some political commentators say will overshadow elected regional officials and therefore undermine the very essence of effective decentralisation.
