President Paul Biya has sent heartfelt condolences to his Kenyan counterpart, William Ruto, in the wake of the devastating floods that have claimed over 200 lives in Kenya.
In a message on May 2, President Biya conveyed his sympathies to William Ruto, acknowledging the significant human and material losses caused by the catastrophic floods that have swept through various parts of Kenya.
Kenya has been grappling with adverse weather conditions since March, resulting in widespread destruction and loss of life.
The floods have left at least 210 people dead, with many more trapped under debris and numerous properties damaged.
“Following this tragedy, I want to extend to you and the behaving families my sincere condolences,” Paul said, adding that he has joined his sense of compassion with that of the Cameroonian people and wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured and to comfort the homeless.
“Mister President and dear brother, please accept the renewed assurance of my very high consideration.”
As the Kenyan government mobilizes resources to address the crisis, the military and national youth service have been deployed to assist in search and rescue operations, particularly in locating bodies trapped under rubble.
Thousands of schools have also been destroyed by the floods.
Despite ongoing relief efforts, meteorologists have warned that cyclone Hidaya is expected to hit Kenya and parts of neighboring Tanzania.
