Biya’s 40th Anniversary Celebrations in Bamenda: CPDM Supporters Express Anger Over Insuficient Food

By Soulemanu Buba

Some supporters of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement Party, (CPDM) in Bamenda have frowned at organizers of the Ruby Jubilee celebrations of President Paul Biya’s ascension to power.

After activities to mark the day ended at the city’s Commercial Avenue esplanade, reception followed at Ayaba Hotel – few kilometres away.

But they arrived the hotel and met empty tables, without food. “Food had just finished and they started cursing the organizers of the event,” said a party supporter.

“We are the ones suffering here. They entered their armoured cars, came to Bamenda and ate food meant for us. Very soon they will tell us to fight for peace to return, enter their armoured cars and return to Yaounde,” one of the angry Biya supporters complained.

Many could be seen holding plates at Ayaba Hotel with no food to eat.

After waiting with the plates for a while, they could only drop them and retire to the seats.

Some of them angrily removed the CPDM uniforms they had on and dumped them before returning home.

It should be noted that on the 4th of November 1982, Paul Biya became president not Cameroon after Ahmadou Ahidjo, the late and former resigned and handed over power to him.

Biya was sworn in on November 6th and has remained Cameroon’s president till date.
